This album was recorded between December 1970 and February 1971 at Headley Grange in Hampshire, and was released in November of that year. It delivers some of the band’s finest songs, and side one particularly has four of their best known tracks, from ‘Black Dog’ and ‘Rock and Roll’, through the mandolin based ‘The Battle of Evermore’ to ‘Stairway to Heaven’. One of the great rock albums of the 1970s, and often regarded as the band’s best recording.
